Paradise Animal Hospital has been providing for pets in Catonsville MD, and the greater Baltimore MD, area for over 25 years. We are currently seeking a full time Medical Director/Lead Veterinarian.
The lead veterinarian serves as the clinical leader of the Hospital. He or she is responsible for the ongoing evaluation and management of clinical practices as well as the delivery of patient care. The lead veterinarian works in partnership with the practice manager and CVP to ensure a high standard of medical case management and to provide an excellent experience for our clients and their pets.

Paradise Animal Hospital is a progressive, full-spectrum small animal practice located in Catonsville, MD, close to Baltimore and surrounding cities. We are a team-motivated, client focused practice with strong attention to preventative medicine as well as a team approach to cases. In addition to our clinical space, our practice includes an on-site rehabilitation facility that has an underwater treadmill. The rehabilitation program is currently overseen by a Canine Rehabilitation Certified veterinarian. We also have doctors who participate in clinical trials that offer our clients access to cutting-edge treatments for conditions such as osteoarthritis and Mast Cell Tumors.
Our hospital offers both in-house and outside laboratory capabilities (IDEXX), digital radiology, excellent surgical monitoring capabilities, and Impromed computer software used throughout the hospital.

DVM or VMD degree from an accredited university
License in good standing to practice in the state of Maryland
At least 5 years of practice experience
Previous management experience preferred
Accomplished surgical and dental skills preferred
Interest in working with exotics
Work with the team in a collaborative and positive manner and provide leadership to the technical and client care staff.
Inspire hospital team to create and maintain a positive and productive environment by setting the example in work habits and communication with staff and clients.
Collaborate with associate doctors and practice manager to create and implement medical standards that ensure an excellent level of care to all patients at every visit.
Communicate, abide by and ensure compliance to state veterinary governing regulations. Oversee completion of monthly doctor schedule and ensure appropriate hospital and on call hours coverage
Oversee on-boarding and ongoing training for clinicians. Mentor new doctors on hospital policies, medical standards and client communication through personal example as a “working” leader, providing veterinary services to clients of the hospital.
Communicate with other departments and attend all required meetings, including staff meetings and the hospital leadership team meeting.
Chair a routine doctor’s meeting, collect agenda suggestions, provide the agenda topics and the meeting minutes to the practice manager for distribution to the veterinarians and appropriate team members.
Evaluate clinician’s performance, including the yearly performance evaluation and a review of completed medical records on a regular basis. Research, present and implement new service and product opportunities, including clinical studies.
Provide clear and concise verbal and written instructions regarding department standards, policies and procedures. Ensure that doctors are informed of changes.
Be supportive of and contribute to the operational and financial goals of the hospital. Participate in yearly budgeting process, monthly P&L reviews and discuss weekly financial reports with practice manager.
Offer support to the practice manager with the strategic plan. Complete additional hospital projects as needed.
Join monthly lead doctor calls.
Attend annual lead doctor meeting.
This position will be comprised of day, evening, and weekend shifts.
The Lead Doctor, and the Practice Manager are ultimately responsible for overall hospital operations. This position performs a number of activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services such as ensuring the breadth and quality of medical care, cost management, utilization review, and quality assurance. He/she will oversee the activities of the general and specialty doctors, and/or interns and residents, when applicable.
