The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC), located in Ames, IA is now accepting applications for four (4) one-year long internships in the Large Animal Rotating Internship Program. This Large Animal Rotating Internship Program has been designed to provide in-depth training in all aspects of large animal internal medicine, surgery, sports medicine, emergency medicine, theriogenology and related basic and applied sciences. The program has been developed to provide interns with a comprehensive knowledge of medical, surgical, lameness, and reproductive conditions affecting animals. Our program strives to prepare interns for active careers in private, academic or specialty practice, and the caseload provides an excellent and broad experience over the duration of the program. The internship will provide advanced training for private practice, specialty internship or application to a residency program. Approximately 75% of the internship will be performed within the equine hospital and 25% within the food animal hospital.
This internship is appropriate for either a new graduate or a veterinarian who has already completed general equine or large animal internships. Candidates unsure of a chosen career or specialty path are also encouraged to apply. Appropriate support and independence will be provided depending upon experience level.
The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC) is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for large and companion animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. The facility is located in Ames, Iowa – approximately 30 minutes north of Des Moines. The annual caseload of the hospital is approximately 2800 cases per year in food animal and 4000 cases per year in equine. The annual salary for an internship is currently $26,000 per year and offers a full complement of benefits including medical insurance, dental insurance, and an annuity plan as well as paid vacation.
