BluePearl Veterinary Partners is looking for a new Group Medical Director for our South / Central territory (AZ/TX)!

SUMMARY

The primary purpose and function of the BluePearl Group Medical Director (GMD) is to provide leadership, direction, mentorship and management to hospital Medical Directors and medical leaders in order to positively drive culture, maximize growth of individual services and hospital medical services offered, and achieve excellence in patient care, client service and primary referring veterinary relationships. The GMD, in partnership with Group Director of Operations (GDO), will ensure all hospitals in the group deliver upon performance objectives, make decisions using the 5 Principles, and develop Medical Directors to operate an effective and productive hospital team, ensure a safe and engaging work environment, and optimize the clinical culture, quality of medicine, and community reputation of the hospital. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS 

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team. 
  • Uphold all BluePearl standards. Continuously build BluePearl brand in connection with all medical and non-medical standards. 
  • Partner with P&O to develop an individual development plan (IDP) and regular feedback model for each Medical Director at least once a year, as part of the performance development process. 
  • Develop Medical Directors and partner with GDOs in assigned regions to develop collegial hospital teams that provide consistent, high quality care and service to pets and clients and to maximize efficiency, productivity and profitability while best serving the referral community. Promote and support the national brand. 
  • Develop Medical Directors to have the skills to develop, engage, coach and mentor Clinicians and their technical teams. 
  • Share ownership of the recruitment, site visit process, hiring, on-boarding, ongoing mentorship, and retention of Clinicians in partnership with the Clinician Recruiting team and GDO. 
  • Ensure pDVM referring relationships are constantly monitored and fostered in order to be strong and growing; partner with Veterinary Relations team to ensure a strong outreach and continuing education program that best engages all associate Clinicians. 
  • Partner with GDO to understand the profitability and finances of the hospitals in order to maximize growth and improvement, including hospital revenue and margin goals, practicing strategic planning to promote future success and growth. 
  • Identify medical leaders within hospitals to develop skills and identify career paths within BluePearl with an understanding of succession planning. 
  • Partner with the GDO to effectively communicate and cascade key messages between the practice/regional team and the group in weekly conference calls and market meetings, when necessary, to execute new or update programs and initiatives. 
  • Oversee all Medical Directors in assigned group to ensure they effectively lead regular meetings and spearhead communications to keep clinical teams engaged in all BluePearl programs and initiatives. Oversight of programs includes, but is not limited to House Officer Programs, new Clinician mentorship program, adverse event reporting and BluePearl Science. 
  • Partners with GDO to ensure appropriate productivity levels and growth plans for Clinicians and hospitals, including maximizing technical teams. 
  • Overall responsibility for service growth and addition of new services to include clinical participation in the CapEx budget process. 
  • Work collaboratively with the BluePearl Support Team to identify opportunities for growth and development, including strategy and development of analytics, metrics and innovation; resolve site specific issues. 
  • Travel 50-75% to ensure in-person leadership in hospitals. 
  • Ensure compliance with all practice protocols, policies and procedures and with all local, state and federal laws. Ensure the safety of pets, clients and associates and the maintenance of clean, safe and organized hospitals. 
  • Other job duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Specialty board certification or DVM/VMD with 10 or more years of clinical practice experience. 

Excellent interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, and leadership skills. Ability to develop strong and supportive working relationships with a wide variety of people and backgrounds, including clinicians, staff, and management as well as referring veterinarians and pet parents. 

Superior people and problem solving skills; a proven ability to get things done in a timely and efficient manner. 

Strong knowledge of medical operations, including clinician development, service efficiencies and maintaining medical standards. 

General understanding of business financials, P&L, pricing, contract negotiations, revenues and payroll as they related to clinical service growth and efficiency. 

Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a rapidly changing environment. 

Previous experience in a medical leadership role preferably in the specialty and emergency referral multi-unit setting.

  • Managing Diversity – Manages all kinds and classes of people equitably.
  • Problem Solving – Uses logic and established methods as well as collaboration to solve difficult problems with effective solutions.
