RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

In addition to the specific duties of the Associate Veterinarian, the individual holding this position is expected to conduct him / herself in a manner consistent with the mission, vision and values of the practice. The following are examples of such conduct although they are by no means exhaustive.

Attire

The Associate Veterinarian is expected: 1) to dress neatly with business clothing that fits appropriately and in keeping with a veterinarian’s professional status; 2) to conform to the practice’s standards and policies regarding the wearing of uniforms during the Associate Veterinarian’s scheduled work time; 3) not to wear jeans, tee-shirts, sneakers, sandals or other open-toed shoes.

Attendance

Attendance and punctuality are of the utmost importance to the practice. Associate Veterinarians are responsible for knowing their schedule on any given week and reporting for work on the appropriate days at the appropriate times. Additionally, they are expected to be in the building, in uniform as appropriate and ready to begin their day at the start of their appointed shift. Associates are expected to lead by example at all times, and this begins with a punctual start to their shift.

Conduct

Lyne Animal Hospitals pride themselves on having professional, congenial and efficient work environments. To that end, Associate Veterinarians are responsible, first and foremost, to adhere to all employee manuals and personnel policies as distributed or updated from time to time by management. Further, they are expected: 1) to be courteous, respectful and responsive to all staff and clients at all times; 2) to keep personal cell phone use and non-work-related web browsing to a minimum throughout the work day; 3) to refrain from engaging in storytelling of a personal or gossip nature, especially when it poses a distraction to colleagues; 4) to maintain a professional demeanor and professional language at all times, but especially at times or in areas where clients and patients are present

Communications

The doctors in the practice are considered leaders in the practice. As such, it is their responsibility to set the tone for the entire staff. Each Associate Veterinarian needs to be mindful of the impact that his/her communications has on colleagues, clients and management as they have the power to create either a negative or a positive work environment on any given day.

Associate Veterinarians are expected and encouraged to engage in dialogue with clients on a wide variety of topics including, naturally, the medical condition and care of their pets, but also the cost of the services proposed during the client’s visit. While the Associate Veterinarian may always call on the manager on duty to handle financial arrangements or to work with clients with financial hardships, it is critical to the doctor’s client relationships to have frank and firm but empathetic conversations of a financial nature during client visits.

All employees are expected, within reason, to be responsive to calls, texts and emails from their colleagues even on days when they are not scheduled to work.

Additionally, Associate Veterinarians are expected to respond to client inquiries personally either by phone or by email when warranted, understanding that part of the practice’s reputation for exceptional client experiences comes from personalized attention from the doctors.

Associate Veterinarians must understand the critical importance of the patient record. In order to best serve clients and their pets, any individual in the practice must be able to have a full understanding of the client and patient history from reading the record. Therefore, doctors must practice thorough and accurate note-taking with respect to phone conversations, email communications, prescriptions, advice or any other interaction, in the patient record.
