I am looking for a mixed animal vet to work 9-10 months a year, with there being an opportunity to buy the practice after 1-2 years. This is a one person practice that is split roughly 50/50 large/small animal. Equine work predominates the large animal so good equine skills are essential. The rest of the large animal is a mix of cows, goats, sheep, pigs, and a variety of other ruminates. Most of the large animal work is April to October with little activity in the winter. Normal office hours are 9-12 and 3-6 M-F. The 12-3 slot is reserved for personal time. It also allows drop-ins and acute cases to be handled on a daily basis. It is extremely rare that you do not have at least 2 hours off mid-day. Clients are scheduled on 30 minute time blocks. The clinic is completely non-computerized, all records are on paper. I have one assistant who serves as tech, receptionist, and bookkeeper. There are no scheduled weekend hours. I handle all my own emergencies, but do not feel tied to the clinic. When I am out of the clinic I simply check messages when I return. There are 2 housing options provided with the job. There is an apartment attached to the clinic for year round use and a cabin that is typically used in summer months. The practice is located in a residential neighborhood where the average lot size is 5 acres. A trail system runs through the property that is groomed for cross country skiing in the winter and used for biking/running during the summer. From November to April you can step out the door and put on your skis with access to over 20 miles of trails. Over the years I have averaged 150 days of skiing a year. The local elementary school is within walking distance and has consistently received high marks. The University of Alaska is 2 miles away with numerous cultural/academic opportunities available to the public. Our international airport is 10 minutes away with direct flights to the lower 48. In regards to selling the practice. Realistically we would not be able to move out of the house (house and clinic are together) until early 2021. This will be a turnkey sale. the clinic is on the ground floor and living space is upstairs. All equipment, supplies and pharmacy go with the sale. There have been tremendous tax advantages to having the house and clinic together since the clinic has more square footage than the living quarters. My CPA knows how to use the tax code to its fullest benefit and I am very willing to share the information. I am able to finance the sale if needed. I am offering $2500-3000/week depending on skill level, this includes emergency work. Overall this is not a mentoring position, I will be gone most of the time and will not be reachable. That said, for the right person who is truly interested in practice ownership but needs some guidance I would be able to be around more to help out. My planned time out of the clinic for the summer is: April 13 to May 31, June7-30, July 10 to August 5, August 10-17, August 21-29, September 8-16, October 7-22. I may be back in town for the occasional extra day or 2 in July and August. By far the best way to reach me is by phone 907-479-3641. During the summer I will go weeks without looking at e-mail.
