The role includes a surgical and general care caseload, as well as critical emergencies. The job offers a broad spectrum of animal care, procedures and treatments in this fast-paced and rewarding environment.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Provide quality diagnostics and best-medicine to shelter pets and post-adoption appointments
Perform soft tissue surgical procedures
Provide superior customer service to our adopters through education, effective communication, and compassion
Communicate with fellow veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and animal care staff to ensure efficient and appropriate medical treatment
Participate in moving our mission forward
Education / License Requirements:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited institution
Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Kansas
Current, or eligible for, DEA license.
Experience, Abilities and Qualifications:
Advanced internal and external customer service skills
Ability to solve problems both medically and professionally
Demonstrate ability to work within a team
Willingness to coach and be coached about medical practices and procedures
Excellent time management and communication skills are key to this role
Self-starter and an independent problem solver, with the desire to be a team contributor
Flexible and adaptable

Great Plains SPCA is one of the largest shelters in the Kansas City metro area. In 2018 we provided quality shelter care for almost 7,000 dogs and cats. We provide daily care, medical care and enrichment for our shelter animals. We provide foster and forever home placements, pet behavior training services, HERO Community Outreach, and Young Heroes Summer Camp. We have a Volunteer Staff in the hundreds.
