The San Francisco SPCA is looking to welcome a Feline Wellness Center (FWC) veterinarian on a full time basis. Since 1868 (we just celebrated our 150 year anniversary!), the San Francisco SPCA has led San Francisco to its present status as one of the most humane cities in the world. We accomplished this through dedication, innovation and collaboration; and we’re looking to hire bright, passionate people who embrace those values.
This feline practitioner position is located at the Pacific Heights campus of the San Francisco SPCA. We have a loyal and long standing clientele with an eager desire to do what is best for their beloved furry companions. There are families who have literally been frequenting us for decades from generation to generation.
The FWC is a unique and separate part of the Pacific Heights campus and is a Gold Certified Cat Friendly Practice. The dedicated feline only space is quiet with low client foot traffic. The reception area has the expected range of diets and supplements plus a retail enrichment section for cats and their owners: think toys, food puzzles and beds. Each of the 3 exam rooms have soft mats on the exam table, warm towels for kitty comfort, pheromone diffusers and comfortable client seating. We are always striving to make that next small adjustment to make sure that our feline patients are as stress-free as possible, which makes it easier for their guardians to bring them in for that needed medical care.
This campus encompasses 24 hour emergency services that are closely integrated with general practice services and is also the overnight receiving hospital for our sister campus in the Mission District. The hospital has provided exceptional patient and client care in the Pacific Heights neighborhood for decades and we are always looking to expand our abilities, services, and patient care on a daily basis.
The San Francisco SPCA provides a robust financial assistance program. This program allows veterinarians to provide care for many patients that would otherwise have to be turned away. The ability to provide these services to our local community in-need leads to immense professional and emotional gratification for our staff veterinarians.
Diagnostics and treatment options are plentiful within this facility including ultrasound, flexible videoscopy, rigid videoscopy, video otoscopy, digital radiography, Nova electrolyte/chemistry analyzer, and IDEXX in-house laboratory suite among others. There is consistent surgical specialist support in addition to the ability for emergency radiology interpretation services. We also have a full time internal medicine specialist on staff for consults or referrals. Our industry-leading behavior department not only has board certified veterinary behaviorists but also offers Kitten Kindergarten, New Cat 101 for clients, and hosts an annual Feline Science Symposium.
This hospital has a long history of strong support from fellow veterinarians and management. You will be joining other feline practitioners who have a will, and more importantly, a strong desire to collaborate and enhance each other’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. We are always excited to have a new face in the crowd, as we know that they are going to bring new perspectives and bits of knowledge that will allow us to become a more complete team.
The starting salary for this position depends on the length and breadth of experience. Eligible for full benefits package including: PTO and holiday pay, medical, dental & vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, tax-deferred retirement plan, pre-tax commute expense deductions, discounted veterinary care, employee discount on retail, pet supplies, and dog training classes. Financial support and time-off for continuing education.
