We are searching far and wide for an ER superhero veterinarian (or someone that strives to become one).
Are you bored with yet another case of flea allergic dermatitis? Do you hunger for the excitement of being a life-saver with emergency medicine? Do you want to be part of a team that is there, 24 hours a day, for the good times (puppy vaccines at 10am) and the bad times (10pm GDV surgery)? If so, maybe we are the place for you. We are looking for a hardworking, compassionate, experienced veterinarian for an overnight emergency position, working 3-4 nights per week. Super skilled with empathy and good at collaboration with patients, clients and coworkers. Consider joining our team at Northwood Animal Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida!
We are a 40 year busy AAHA-accredited general practice and 24 hour hospital, treating dogs, cats, with some exotics (and a chicken here and there). We are busy and see a varied caseload that will require your superpowers. During regular hours we are general practice. After hours and part of weekend we are emergency only. This job would be overnights only-daytime emergencies are covered by the day vets at Northwood and our sister hospital, The Animal Hospital and Pet Resort at Southwood. Between the 2 hospitals there are 13 veterinarians, all willing to let you “pick their brain” about challenging cases. “Toys” at your disposal include Cornerstone paperless software, Sedecal digital x-ray machine (D/R); ultrasonic dental unit and digital dental x-ray, Companion Therapy Laser; Philips ultrasound machine (2017 model); Idexx ECG; In-house Idexx Laboratory including, Idexx Procyte Dx, Catalyst Dx and Abaxis clotting analyzer, Sedivue urinalysis machine, Progesterone testing, etc. Monitoring equipment includes Idexx ECG, Cardell and Vetspecs anesthetic monitoring; Heska IV (12+) pumps, Ellman cautery unit and an Airnetics Oxygen Generator for unlimited O2 for your patients.
Are you tired of having to euthanize a treatable pet that would be highly adoptable? We have a nonprofit rescue (CARE) that runs out of the hospital. If there is a case where premium treatment is not an option (lack of finances, stray, etc.) and the owner is willing to relinquish ownership for the betterment of the pet, the ability to save a life exists. Once the pet enters our care, you can practice the skill needed, or learn a new skill needed to be a lifesaver. Win Win for everyone! Definitely caped crusader behavior.
As the capital of Florida, Tallahassee is located 45 minutes from Gulf beaches with a climate and geographical location ideally suited for a variety of outdoor activities including beach trips, hiking, kayaking, fishing, biking and running. If you like the outdoors, Tallahassee is for you! Home to two universities (Florida State University and Florida A &M University), Tallahassee offers a multitude of arts, sports, and cultural offerings to fill your free time. But we are not a huge metropolis with crazy traffic jams. Even superheroes need a hobby and a life/alter ego outside of work.
Salary will be commensurate upon experience and shifts worked with a base somewhere between $85,000-$110,000. Salary is on Prosal basis and most of our emergency vets produce enough to be paid north of $110,000. Benefits include 401K with matching funds, continuing education allowance, liability insurance, vacation time, dental and vision insurance, health insurance allowance, and optional gym membership. We get both hospitals together for fun group activities, with trips to the North Florida Fair, movie nights, tubing trips and clinic parties. We work hard and play hard.
