The person in this role will be responsible for managing a variety of daily tasks including 30% supervisory functions and 70% taking veterinary appointments (90% of surgical appointments are dental). This person will act as a Leader in supporting all other medical personnel such as associate veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and assistants. This person should have enthusiasm for continued learning and improvement, excellent communication skills, and ability to take initiative. Person must have D.V.M. OR V.M.D. from an AVMA accredited institution and a license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Texas. License is in good standing. Minimum of 4 years’ experience required.
This role will be influential in building out the territory as well as developing the team to create strong relationships with customers and new pet service facilities.

Modern Veterinary Medicine Skills – Candidates need to have a passion for practicing modern medicine and be experienced in using modern medicine techniques. Experience practicing oral dentistry, surgical extractions, and preventative or repair work is required. More specifically, candidates need to be comfortable with a spade & neutering, GI foreign body, GI Biopsy, Cystostomy bladder stone removal, prolapsed eyelid / cherry eye surgery, spleen removals, and laceration repairs to name a few. As a leader of the organization you will also assist other doctors with decision support and diagnosis.
Veterinary Dentistry - Need to be very proficient in providing dentistry care, which will be upwards of 90% of the surgical procedures completed. Candidates must have demonstrated prior experience using digital ex-rays and preventative care technologies. Candidates will also be proficient with surgical extractions and performing dental nerve blocks.
Interpersonal Communication Skills – Candidates who have demonstrated the ability to clearly and concisely communicate, both oral and written, at all levels within an organization. Candidates who listen first, then quickly assess and understand the specific communication needs of their audience, ranging from limited to no education to the highly educated, adjusting their communication style and approach to ensure understanding and comprehension. Must be socially aware of environment, audience, and other situational variables and adjust communication style and approach to meet the communication needs of that unique situation.
Uses Active vs. Passive Voice – Has empathy, listens to customers and has the ability to address their needs using an active voice vs. passive voice. For example, a passive voice may say to the customer “I see tarter build up, and I think it will be a good idea to address it”, where as an active voice may say “I am seeing tarter build up, this is one of the most common causes of death in this species and we should address this now; I have an appointment available three days from now will that day work for you?
Mentor & Development – Will have a strong desire to mentor, develop and train junior veterinarian doctors. Will be accountable for developing a company-wide mentor and education program and will contribute as a key member of the working group to help put that into place.
What you’ll be accountable for
Ensure medical protocols compliance with associate veterinarians
Excellent, demonstrated medical and surgical skills are essential including: strong abilities with general anesthesia, soft tissue surgery and internal medicine. Proficiency in dentistry a must including surgical extractions and interpretation of dental x-ray
Ensure that all doctors fully document patient medical records to support care offered and facilitate easy communication in multi-doctor setting
Oversee and ensure proper management of controlled substance log and procedures
Ensure all medical records are completed in a timely manner
Teamwork & Efficiency
Ensure proper communication, establishing standardized processes and consistency
Ability to provide technical and functional supervision, including scheduling, approving time off, providing technical training, and providing employee feedback.
Communicate pertinent information to colleagues for efficient case management
Assisting management with recruitment, hiring, and evaluating medical personnel
Participating in meetings, discussions and decisions regarding the strategy, direction and operations of the practice with management
Assist in maintaining financial performance of the practice
Identify areas to improve revenue, manage expenses and coordinate protocol implementation with management
Address any client concerns professionally
Use client feedback resources to improve doctor performance
Guide veterinarians in clearly communicating appropriate treatment options
Ensure that all doctors develop clear clinical communication skills and relationship building techniques
Continuing Education Responsibilities
Offer insight on lacking areas for training of doctors and coordinate training
Regularly schedule and attend veterinarian-management meetings
15 openings. Employer will assist with relocation costs.
Additional Salary Information: $130,000 to $150,000
