Albany Animal Hospital, Inc. is looking for an exceptional individual to join our team of animal care experts in the role of Certified/Licensed Veterinary Technician. We are a full-service small animal hospital offering preventative and wellness care, routine medical care, internal medicine, and surgical care to dogs, cats, exotics, pocket pets, and wildlife.

If your focus is paying attention to detail, you probably thrive in the surgical suite. Maybe you have a desire to lead and mentor technician assistants in the newest tricks of the trade or excel at demonstrating home care to customers with special needs patients? This position requires solid technical skills with a heart and dedication to providing patients and clients with the highest standard of care. Your strong suits will be utilized to the fullest and we'll encourage you to learn and grow in other areas of veterinary medicine as well as hone your special interests.

Responsibilities for this position may include:

  • Assisting DVM’s with physical examinations and surgeries
  • Inducing and monitoring anesthesia
  • Pre and post-surgical patient care
  • Calculating, administering, and documenting the use of therapeutic drugs
  • Managing nursing care and treatments of hospitalized patients
  • Emergency triage
  • Performing dental care
  • Digital radiographs and positioning of patients
  • Medical records documentation
  • Monitoring, ordering, and inventory of medical supplies
  • Providing client education
  • Direct and mentor junior staff and vet assistants as needed

  • Utilize critical thinking skills, with a focus on problem solving and resolution
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, without sacrificing attention to detail or safety
  • Clearly communicate in both written and oral conversation

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, talk, and listen; may be required to walk or stand for long periods of time; will use hands to manipulate, handle, restrain, or feel; will reach with hands and arms. The employee is often required to lift, carry, and handle animals weighing up to fifty pounds or more (with assistance).

Required Qualifications:

  • Veterinary Technician Certification or Licensure (CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT) in the state of Oregon
  • High school education, GED, and/or higher education desired
  • Minimum of 1 year working in the veterinary field as a certified/licensed technician
  • Preferred minimum of one-year critical care, specialty, or emergency small animal care in private, non-profit, or educational organizations (A suitable combination of experience or education may substitute for the above.

 

  • Successful completion of a 90-day introductory period required to receive a $500 hiring bonus.
  • Albany Animal Hospital is a drug-free workplace. Passing a pre-employment drug test is required as a condition of employment.
