The Licensed Veterinary Technician will perform clinical and administrative duties at our full-service veterinary hospital. The LVT must be experienced with surgery, dentistry, digital radiography, phlebotomy and basic ultrasonography.

Clinical duties will include anesthesia, radiology, minor dental procedures, patient care, and animal husbandry.

This job will require significant administrative tasks including inventory, scheduling, and phone consultations. The LVT must be highly organized, have a positive collaborative attitude and enjoy contact with the general public. Must be licensed or eligible for license in NY.

This position will report to our Yorktown campus with travel to our Patterson campus as needed.

Normal hours are Monday – Friday; 9-5. Flexible availability is required for after hours on-call shifts which include nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. These shifts are rotated amongst or technician team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all aspects of vet hospital function, including but limited to: scheduling of procedures, cleanliness, equipment care, preparation of animals for procedures, maintaining inventory and ordering of medical supplies for both the Yorktown hospital and Canine Development Center (CDC), medicating of animals
  • Responsible for performing dental prophylaxis on dogs
  • Perform routine radiology (hip and elbow radiographs, etc)
  • Prepare dogs for surgeries and be present for monitoring and assisting doctor during procedures
  • Administer emergency care, including the administration of IV fluids or appropriate medications
  • Advise CDC staff on care of hospitalized dogs in the Puppy Program or care for sick dogs
  • Communicate with training staff as needed on animal care
  • Maintain records on patient care, both written and computerized with emphasis on drug administration
  • Responsible for after care of dogs after procedures
  • Responsible for procedure and exam scheduling
  • Schedule all heartworm tests and vaccine administration

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have strong veterinary technician/kennel experience and skills
  • Must be licensed as a vet tech by the state of New York
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a veterinary hospital is preferred
  • Must be willing to work on-call shifts outside of regular hours and report to work for emergencies during those shifts when necessary
  • Must be capable of lifting and handling a dog with a weight up to 70 pounds
  • Good customer service, communication, and organizational skills
  • Well organized, team player
