Privately owned Vets Pets seeks Emergency Hospital Medical Director +/- Partnership:

Do you love leading and motivating people to achieve a goal together?

Are you fulfilled by watching team members grow and learn?

Do you understand that it takes all kinds to make a team successful?

Do you believe hard work and time should be rewarded financially?

Do you feel successful not only when a case goes well, but when your colleagues and support team are working together while enjoying the challenge of ER medicine?

Okay…so that’s a lot of questions to propose. However, your answers and the stream of thoughts they produce are really important to us.

We have a tremendous after-hours hospital that is on the cusp of amazing growth. The team there is the type that brings their air mattresses to camp out during a hurricane staying hot and sweaty even when the power goes out. They do pot luck meals. They celebrate each other’s milestones. They stick up for each other and push bullies out. This team includes long term associates that are dedicated and love what they do. They vow to transform together and celebrate advancements.

We love this team. We are proud of this team.

We want to give them a Medical Director that will acknowledge their past accomplishments while encouraging growth into a 24-hour emergency and critical care facility, all in a new building that is breaking ground now. We want to give them a Medical Director that believes in servant leadership and the core values of Vets Pets. Are you that person?

So, we threw out a handful of questions to you. Here are some answers for you on us:

Where is this great team?

Animal Urgent Care is in Fayetteville, NC. Animal Urgent Care has provided after-hours small animal emergency care to the Fayetteville region for 30+ years and was acquired by Vets Pets in 2014. Servicing over 40 referring hospitals, Animal Urgent Care continues to grow and has much potential. The referring community is ready to utilize local specialty services and 24 hours care for their patients.

Fayetteville is North Carolina’s fifth-largest city and the home of Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base. Fayetteville, and its surrounding region, is experiencing significant retail and residential growth as more families move in to make the area home. Fayetteville is known for its art culture, military history and influence, historic downtown, museums, diversity, good food, and friendly people. Metropolitan Raleigh, the beaches of Wilmington, and the golf courses of Pinehurst are all just a short drive away.

The cool part is that Animal Urgent Care has three sister emergency hospitals, each within less than two hours of Fayetteville. Our family loves to share ideas, inventory (who has a unit of pRBCs to spare?), staff, and protocols.

Animal Urgent Care is ready to meet the needs and demands of the area in a brand new 7,000 sq ft facility with land allowing for further growth. We cannot wait to give this team a new home they can be really proud of!

Who owns this hospital?

Vets Pets. We are a privately owned hospital management and leadership development company based in central and eastern North Carolina. Started in 2007, Vets Pets invests in people so they can provide the veterinary medicine and client care they love. Over 50% of our locations have partner veterinarians guiding their location to success.

We have learned from successes and mistakes and use those experiences to solve problems together. Senior leadership is involved in many day-to-day decisions giving help when needed and keeping a pulse on what is going on. Our pride comes from the growth and success of our people. Our pride also comes from sharing success with our teams through better benefit plans, sponsored group activities, free CE events, and staff development.

We listen. We collaborate. We develop. We support. We also enjoy what we do!

What is the goal of this hospital?

The area is asking for a 24-hour facility and the new building will be able to provide that to a community currently driving over an hour for extensive care. That is the primary goal, and the wheels are already heading that direction. We have surgeons at our sister locations interested in helping get a service off the ground. Where it goes from there will all depend on the leadership and vision within the hospital.

What are the requirements of this position?

Most importantly is the core understanding that leadership is not a position or a title. Leadership is action and example. This is not a theory discussed at a table about protocols with spreadsheets in hand. You have to put on your scrubs, get down and bloody, and love your work.

Working shifts alongside the team is a requirement. However, administration time is built into a MD’s schedule so referring community relationships can be built, collaboration with Vets Pets and sister hospitals can occur, and valuable time can be spent with other doctors and the team outside your specified shifts.

How do I go about learning more and submitting my CV?

Contact Dr. Paige Harrington at paigeharringtondvm@thevetspets.com. Additional questions can be answered and a pulse on Vets Pets culture from a senior leadership member can be made. We look forward to hearing from you!
