Opening for an equine veterinarian to join a well equipped and well established privately owned practice in northern California.

Who are we?  We are Valley Equine Hospital located 30 miles south of the Silicon Valley in an area that boasts a large variety of Western and English performance horses, a mix of backyard/pasture pets and broodmares.   We have all the essential accoutrements—digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, gastroscopy, shockwave, in-house lab (Idexx) equipment, IRAP, ProStride, paperless records and motorized dental equipment.  We are about 70% ambulatory and have a haul-in facility with the capacity for surgery.

We are looking for a true team player to join our kindred staff.   You need to be able to establish an open, honest rapport with your new colleagues.  We are a group practice and would like to continue as such so that we may be stronger as a collective.

Our ideal candidate would be an adept equine practitioner that enjoys the challenges of lameness and/or reproduction, as well as, the human who is holding the lead rope.  This position requires that these individuals--the horse and the client, are treated with care and compassion.  Do you have skills in acupuncture/chiropractic?  Dentistry? There is a strong demand for these modalities as well.

Good communication skills are important.  The clients need someone that can listen to their concerns, as well as, effectively explain the plan of action to address those concerns and needs of the horse.

It is vital that you possess the curiosity and drive to continue to perfect these skills as the profession continues to advance and change as new information comes to light.  This curiosity, a balanced personal life and a decent sense of humor are essential so that burnout is more easily circumvented.

Excellent base salary plus production, 401(k), CE allowance, vacation time and a flexible work schedule.  As with most things in life, salary and benefits are negotiable.  Housing may be available if needed.  The on call schedule is shared and currently, averages one night/week and one weekend/month.  We will mentor you as much, or as little, as you need to help ensure a successful start to the next chapter of your life.  One of these positions would suit someone who has ownership aspirations within the next 1-5 years.
