We are looking for a full-time or part-time associate veterinarian to join our team.

Abbey Animal Hospital is a progressive, well-equipped, small animal practice that is dedicated to providing excellent patient and client care.  It has been privately owned and operated since it opened in 1981, and that means that we work for our patients, clients, and our own satisfaction, not for a group of shareholders.  While we foster and expect our vets to practice good medicine, we do not require everyone to follow a cookie cutter work-up regime. We allow each veterinarian to develop their own method of providing good quality care, while supporting them with a team of highly trained and compassionate hospital staff.

At our clinic we value the relationship that we have with our clients.  We are not a conveyor belt clinic that shoves through as many appointments in a day as we can.  Our appointment slots are all 30 minutes long so that the doctors have ample time to take a full history, do a thorough exam and work-up, and shoot the breeze with the clients to get to know them and their pets on a more personal level.  We have a registered technician, and numerous highly trained support staff that can draw blood, place catheters, take radiographs, perform dentals, and monitor anesthesia. We have our own ultrasound machine, but for full scans we use a mobile ultrasound service.  We work with a mobile surgeon that comes in to do conventional and TPLO cruciate surgeries, TECABOs, and fracture repairs. We have access to a boarded veterinary behaviorist that sees cases in our clinic. We also have multiple referral hospitals nearby for surgery, internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, neurology, dermatology, and dentistry that we work with on a regular basis.  Additionally, there are two emergency hospitals 20 minutes from our location, so our vets do not have to be on-call or do after hours care. We value a work-life balance, so as a full time associate veterinarian, you will have a 3-day weekend every other week, and 1.5 days off during the week that you have to work the weekend. Even when you do work the weekend, Saturday hours end at noon, and we are closed every Sunday.

Abbey Animal Hospital is located in Nottingham, Maryland, which is in the suburbs north of Baltimore.  We are in close proximity to White Marsh, Perry Hall, and Towson. There are numerous parks and rivers close by, as well as two vineyards, and a creamery that sells ice cream on the farm and hosts family-friendly events.  Our area also has a strong maritime culture due to the Chesapeake Bay. There are many quaint, water-front towns to visit on Maryland’s eastern shore, as well as the beach at Ocean City. Baltimore City has been undergoing extensive revitalization and has numerous fine dining and casual restaurants, museums, mainstream and art-house movie theaters, football and baseball teams, etc. for entertainment.  Our location is central in the Mid-Atlantic region, so there are lots of options for weekend getaways. Washington D.C. is 1 hour south, and Philadelphia and New York City are 1.5 and 3 hours north, respectively.

Our Ideal Candidate will:

  • Have a DVM or equivalent degree, and be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Maryland.
  • Be knowledgeable, capable, compassionate, and dedicated to maintaining our high standard of care and client relationships.
  • Experience is a plus, but we are happy to accept the right new grad candidate, and can provide a support network to help them grow.

NOTES:

Additional Salary Information: We are able to put together a competitive compensation package that includes paid vacation and sick leave, a retirement plan, profit-sharing, healthcare, professional liability coverage, AVMA and GBVMA membership, and CE.
About Abbey Animal Hospital
Abbey Animal Hospital was founded in 1981 by Dr Jim Orrell. He founded the practice with the hometown feel in mind, and decades later we continue on this premise. The practice was purchased in 2016 by Dr John Kluttz, and subsequently updated to an LLC. We are still a small two doctor hospital, which allows us to practice the individualized care our clients have come to expect. Even with consistent growth of the business, we pride ourselves on our ability to give each and every client and pet the time and attention they require. All doctor appointments are scheduled for a minimum of 30 minutes. At Abbey, we rely on the strength of our team. We have a great staff of paraprofessionals, and we schedule 2 technicians/assistants per doctor. Technician’s and assistant's skills are utilized and developed. Front desk staff, assistants, and technicians are all cross trained to provide a support system that allows our doctors to focus on patient care. Abbey Animal Hospital is not just a workplace; it’s a team that feels like family. From the connections we make with clients in the room and over the “barn style” half open doors, to the pride we take in supporting each other, Abbey is not your typical animal clinic!
