Join one of the few American Animal Hospital Accredited (AAHA) veterinary referral hospitals in Massachusetts!

Angell West is seeking a full time or part time Cardiologist for our busy practice. Angell West is a 24-hour emergency and referral hospital in Waltham, MA, a small city 11 miles from downtown Boston. We are a satellite hospital of Angell Animal Medical Center, an emergency, referral, and primary care hospital that has been operating in Boston for more than a century. Our Waltham practice is ideally situated close to metro-west communities and those north and south of Boston, with high-quality primary care veterinary hospitals serving as our referral base.

Our facility and resources:

Our hospital is approximately 18,000 square feet and has been recently renovated and expanded.  Cardiology equipment includes a Philips Affiniti echo unit, Dextronix electronic VET-ECG system, in-house telemetric monitoring, ambulatory ECG systems (holter and event monitoring), petMAP and Doppler blood pressure systems, and a portable GE Vivid i echo unit.  Angell West is outfitted with a CT scanner, ultrasound, endoscopy, video otoscopy, laparoscopy, arthroscopy, an in-house laboratory (Abaxis, NOVA, and Procyte machines), oxygen cages, and an on-site blood bank.  We are equipped with 3 spacious surgical suites with natural light, as well as a sizeable surgical preparation and induction area.  Digital radiography is performed on-site in Waltham with interpretation of all films by the radiology service at Angell Boston 6 days a week.  Full abdominal ultrasounds are available 6 days a week as well.  We have an extensive on-site physical rehabilitation service, run by two certified veterinarians, which provides a large above-ground pool, two under water treadmills, land based exercise facilities, and various ancillary services.  Doctors also have access to the extensive resources of Angell Boston, including twice daily delivery of laboratory samples from Angell West to their fully equipped onsite laboratory staffed by two boarded pathologists.  We work in collaboration with the Boston staff to provide the highest quality patient and client care in a seamless environment.

Angell Boston has a fully equipped cardiac catheterization lab including c-arm fluoroscopy with power injection for angiography. The cardiology service at Angell West has the opportunity to take cases to Boston for cardiac catheterization and pacemaker implantation (with the assistance of the Boston team).

Our people:

Our collegial hospital staff at Angell West includes emergency/critical care, internal medicine, avian-exotics, cardiology, physical rehabilitation, dermatology, surgery, neurology, and behavior. Collaboration is one of our core values, and our surveyed team members consistently rate the people with whom they work as one of the best parts of their job. Numerous professional development offerings include weekly seminars, frequent lunch and learns, several hours of journal club, and didactic learning (primarily at our Boston practice).

Angell West is operated by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), a non-profit, values-based organization with a focus on client service, patient care, and life-work balance. We hold ourselves to an extremely high standard of excellence, another of our core values, as evidenced by AAHA referral accreditation for our specialty services, which differentiates us from many of the other referral hospitals in the area. Continual improvement is part of our culture.

What makes us unique:

This position provides a unique opportunity to join a well-known and respected practice at a non-corporate, non-profit, referral hospital.  Our veterinarians are able to practice in an intimate client-focused setting, but with numerous amenities from the larger Angell Boston hospital as support. This would be an ideal position for an individual who is seeking a smaller hospital-based setting with a busy clinical cardiology practice. The caseload will be generated through appointments, in-house referral, the emergency service, and referrals from our community practices.  Our cardiology service has been operating at capacity, with a significant wait time for appointments, since opening.  We expect that a new cardiologist joining our practice will quickly build a caseload.  The MSPCA is a values-based organization, with six core values of Collaboration, Compassion, Excellence, Integrity, Positivity, and Service.  We are looking for an individual who shares our values and is seeking a collaborative client-focused setting.

Our Benefits:

We offer a competitive benefits package, a compensation plan consisting of a guaranteed base salary with additional production based payment, and a desirable work schedule.  Our staffing, schedule, and benefits allow for considerable time away from work, providing an ideal life-work balance.

  • Generous base salary plus additional production bonus
  • Paid professional memberships, licensure, PLIT, VIN and DEA license
  • Annual CE allowance and professional development time
  • Generous Paid Time Off, including paid holiday time
  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance
  • Dental, life and disability insurance
  • 403B with employer match
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Relocation allowance where applicable
  • As part of the renowned MSPCA, Angell West is a not-for profit (reduction in your student loans is a possibility) animal hospital.
  • Social Worker on staff to make sure our doctors and technicians can maintain a good work-life balance (while still enjoying the excitement of veterinary medicine!)

Requirements:

We are seeking applicants that are veterinarians (DVM or VMD) and are board certified or have completed a cardiology residency.

Candidates must demonstrate aptitude for multi-tasking and working successfully in a team environment. The successful candidate should be able to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, to the veterinary and technical staff as well as clients and referring veterinarians.

Apply today by email to cstanton@mspca.org or visit our career page at MSPCA-Angell Careers.
