Small Animal Veterinarian

 

Position Overview:

Location:

We are located in Starkville, MS home to Mississippi State University. Aside from being home to the Bulldogs, Starkville is known for its eclectic festivals and annual events.

 

Practice Overview:

Starkville Veterinary Hospital has been providing high quality veterinary health care since 1974. We are a full-service small animal veterinary medical facility that is dedicated to serving pet owners primarily in Starkville, but also Columbus, Louisville, and West Point, Mississippi. We began with a single goal in mind: to treat every client as though they are family and every pet as if he or she is one of our own. This goal is still at the heart of our practice. Our care in the service provided to our clients extends to our staff too. You can often find us firing up the grill for our team meetings because we believe “a family that eats together, stays together!”

 

What You’ll Be Working On:

  • Provide routine exams, vaccinations and associated annual and semi-annual testing
  • Interpretation of bloodwork, urinalysis, radiography, and ultrasound utilizing the latest in-house and send out diagnostics from IDEXX Labs
  • Prescribing medication to pets
  • Utilize a CO2 laser in surgery and a therapy laser for healing and ongoing pain management
  • Maintain a high level of client communication and patient care
  • We refer our after hours and weekend emergencies to the Mississippi State University Veterinary School Emergency Service
  • Be an intricate part of our staff training during our weekly team meeting

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited university and in good standing
  • Maintain the minimum CE hours for Mississippi
  • Maintain USDA APHIS accreditation to write health papers for small animals
  • One-year experience in small animal medicine preferred but new graduates will be considered
  • Performing surgery and diagnosing and prescribing medications are required
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Ability to assist the technicians and kennel technicians in picking up 50#-100# dogs to place them on an exam table as needed
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative

 

NOTES:

Additional Salary Information: Health Insurance is provided and/or available for and your immediate family Cell phone is provided or reimbursed CE is paid for and you are given 5 days extra vacation time to complete the CE’s. We think continuing education is important, so we reimburse up to $2000 for your CE 10 days of paid vacation 5 paid sick days You will work 4.5 days per week, one afternoon per week off No Saturday or Sunday regular hours other than if a patient is hospitalized. Yeah you heard right!  NO SATURDAY REGULAR HOURS  Salary will be discussed and is negotiable based on your experience level and your proposed ability to generate income for the practice
