Is your graduation approaching and you are unsure where the future will take you?  Or are you a general practitioner looking to shift your career to the exciting world of ER medicine? We are looking for new grads or those new to ER medicine to join our team of ER doctors.  This program offers a strong 5 month structured mentorship program to help advance your clinical skills to gain the confidence and experience to become an efficient, well-rounded veterinarian that practices evidence-based medicine.  We are entering our third year of the successful program, and we are excited at the opportunity to have you join us.  This is a program suited for someone who has not completed a rotating in internship and is eager to work in the field of ER medicine.  Loan assistance is available for long-term contracts.

The Immersion Program is supported by all specialists, on-the-floor clinical mentorship is provided by ER clinicians, and round-the-clock support is provided by three criticalists.   The VMC is a 18,000 sq ft hospital (with plans for upcoming expansion) that currently offers 24 hour emergency in addition to Internal Medicine, Surgery, Oncology, Radiology, Cardiology, Nutrition, Anesthesiology and Critical Care. In addition, within the VMC exists CARE, a complementary rehabilitation and pain management center. The Critical Care Service has its own technical team to ensure efficient case management. Attached to the VMC is an IDEXX reference laboratory, which enables accurate test results with a fast turnaround time for hospitalized patients.

Emergency clinicians work 3-4 days shifts per week, most shifts being 10 hours, and have 24/7 support by 3 Criticalists and the rest of the specialty team.  They are responsible for working rotating shifts to provide 24hr emergency care to our local pet community.  Our schedule provides overlap to ensure you leave at the end of your shift – not hours later.  Your personal time is important to us, and want you to work hard while with us, but enjoy your time off to rest, explore hobbies or attend social engagements.  The ER doctors are not required to perform major surgeries beyond laceration/wound repair.  All major surgeries are performed by the Surgery Service.

Interested applicants should contact Maureen Luschini Hospital Owner through luschini@vmccny.com or call 315-446-7933.
