We are seeking a fulltime certified veterinary technician or assistant with equivalent experience to add to our growing equine/mixed animal veterinary practice in west central Wisconsin.  We primarily see horses during the spring/summer months, but do supplement with some small animal work in the winter months.  We love our jobs and are hoping to find another passionate person to work with.  Position entails performing veterinary assistant duties, animal handling, and some receptionist duties.  2-3 days per week will be working on farms assisting the veterinarian on duty, and 2-3 days per week will consist of answering phones, triaging and scheduling appointments and sending out labwork, among other office duties.  Office hours are 8-4, but when out with the veterinarian, days are usually 10 hours, but are flexible.  Our vets see a mixture of performance horses, working horses, and backyard pets.  We have a special interest in reproduction, performance and dentistry.  Our facility is equipped with new mobile, wireless digital radiography, powerfloat, ultrasonography, in house blood machine, and two fully stocked veterinary trucks with refridgerator units, heated water, and heated storage.  We do take some patients in to our haul in facility, but work there is limited.  We see all large animal emergencies, focusing on equine.  We do not see small animal emergencies, but we do routine vaccines, spays and neuters for our farm clients.

Start date desired between March 1st -April 1st, but dates can be flexible for the right applicant.

  • Positive attitude and professional work ethic required
  • Must enjoy working as a team and be able to professionally speak to clients
  • Familiarity with safe medication handling, dispensing and administration.
  • Computer skills adequate to learn veterinary practice software
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Must understand aseptic technique
  • Must be able to type dictated notes on a computer while riding as a passenger in a vehicle without getting motion sickness
  • Must be able to relate and communicate with a variety of types of people while triaging emergencies and scheduling appointments
  • Must be willing to perform any duty needed to allow smooth operation of a mobile veterinary practice (clean and organize truck, medications, stalls, organize office, clean office and clinic space)
  • Familiarity with horses and horse veterinary needs is required
  • License preferred but not required

NOTES:

Additional Salary Information: Competitive pay based on experience, paid time off, continuing education allowance, and personal animal care discounts.
