Herkimer Veterinary Associates is looking to hire an enthusiastic, compassionate, and eager small animal veterinarian and a mixed large and small animal veterinarian. New graduates are welcome! We are a growing private practice with 5 full time and 1 part time veterinarians. We pride ourselves on providing high quality medicine in a rural setting and collaborate frequently with each other to provide the best care to our patients. All difficult cases are consulted on amongst each other routinely. We enjoy mentoring and are open to learning new techniques as well. Our large animal ambulatory practice involves mainly dairy and equine services with a handful of beef, sheep, and goat clients as well. We have a strong group of 6 licensed veterinary technicians on staff and rely on them as our partners in providing high quality care for our small animal patients. Our staff rounds out with 4 assistants, 3 receptionists and a practice manager. Our veterinarians rotate on call to provide coverage for nights and weekends. We emphasize quality of life for all our staff and work hard to ensure a schedule that fosters a good work-life balance. We treat our employees very much like family, keeping their best interests in mind and respecting each other. At Herkimer Veterinary Associates, we deeply hold to the saying that if you enjoy your job, you will never have to work a day in your life. We know how to work smarter, not harder, in order to avoid burn out and poor mental health. Everyone on our team is a team player.

Herkimer Vet is a two-location practice that treats both large and small animals. Our locations are only 15 miles apart in a picturesque country setting. Our main location is a fear free full-service veterinary clinic equipped with all the latest technology: digital x-ray, ultrasound, tonopen, doppler blood pressure monitor, surgery suite, separate dog and cat wards, full in-house and send out laboratory services. Our new satellite location is currently open only part time for wellness services but will be growing into a full service clinic as well. Our new DVM positions involve time at both locations and is open to new services one may be able to provide.

Nestled in the Mohawk Valley along the Erie Canal, Herkimer and the surrounding area is a rural community with small town charm. All members of Herkimer Vet are involved in our local community and are recognized for their work. Outdoor enthusiasts will relish at having the Adirondacks close by for camping, hiking, horseback riding, and water sports in the summer with ice fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling in the winter. For the big city lovers, Boston, Montreal, New York City, and Saratoga are less than a day’s drive away. The area’s cost of living is low making a move to the Herkimer or surrounding area affordable and quality of life enjoyable.
