The first priority for our new Veterinarian will be our FixaPet Program.  FixaPet is a low-cost HQHVSN  program for public animals where over 20,000 spays and neuters for cats and dogs have already been performed.  FixaPet also provides low-cost vaccination and wellness appointments.  We currently conduct spay/neuter surgeries 1-2 days per week, with the possibility of expanding.  Shelter cats and dogs are also altered through the FixaPet Program.

The next priority will be leading our Shelter Medicine program.  Approximately 1,000 animals pass through the doors at CCHS each year.  Oversite of our Shelter Medicine program will include wellness exams, vaccinations, diagnosis and treatment of illness, developing and implementing treatment plans, dental cleanings and extractions, and other soft tissue surgeries (e.g. hernia, cherry eye, entropion) as needed for Shelter animals.  Responsibilities include ensuring safe, effective and efficient medical processes while providing direction to medical support staff.  In-house lab diagnostic capabilities are available.

Requirements for this position include holding a current Wisconsin DVM license, DEA license, a commitment to excellence and a willingness to learn.  Good communication skills with a sense of humor and positive attitude are a must.  Above all, a passion and commitment to treating patients and clients with kindness and respect is essential.  We consider our focus to be on veterinarian-driven medicine, and as such look forward to sharing knowledge and expertise with support staff and clients.

Here are a few more details about the job!  The full-time salary range is $90,000 - $200,000 based on level of experience and surgical proficiency.  Salary will be prorated for part-time.  Benefits include reimbursement for professional licensing, membership in one professional organization of choice, monetary and time allowance for continuing education providing the opportunity to grow, two weeks of PTO, health and dental insurance, and relocation expense assistance.  Position will report to the CCHS Executive Director.  Flexible scheduling is available to provide the best work-life balance possible, with no weekends, evenings, or emergency hours.  Most record work is performed by support staff.  Being certified as a Fear Free Facility is a current goal of CCHS and FixaPet.  CCHS will sponsor the opportunity to attend ASPCA/Humane Alliance spay/neuter two-week training.  As CCHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, our Veterinarian will be eligible for Federal Student Loan Forgiveness Benefits via the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF). 

Clark County Humane Society has become a role model for animal welfare work.  We work with rescues, shelters and private clients to provide affordable veterinary care.  Our goal is to be a community resource for animals in need.  The higher volume and lower prices we offer are never achieved at the expense of quality.  We believe in a strong team concept where all staff is valued and appreciated.  Having been around for over 30 years, CCHS is very progressive and innovative, and has been one of the earliest proponents of “High save rate” shelters in the Midwest.  Our Live Release Rate was over 98% in 2020.  A 12,000 square foot addition to the Shelter was completed in 2016 and houses the FixaPet Clinic.  Plans are to increase the size and scope of the FixaPet program as the demand for these services has been overwhelming and shows no signs of slowing.
