Tired of the corporate grind? Are you finding yourself spending more time focused on your production numbers than you are on the care of your patients? We have the antidote. AAHA accredited, VMG member small and exotic animal hospital is seeking an Associate Veterinarian.  Our passion is superior level medicine, collaborative relationships with our clients and a nurturing, family friendly work environment focused on the team goals. We have a culture devoted to providing the most compassionate, comprehensive companion animal healthcare services for those who choose them. Our values embody integrity, initiative, respect, honesty and compassion.

Northern Oaks Bird & Animal Hospital is a successful, locally-owned, locally-managed practice focused on the comprehensive and compassionate care of our patients and their families.  We offer 30 minute appointment times in order to focus on the needs of our patients and clients, as well as benefit the doctors and staff.  Our goal is to have both healthy patients and healthy doctors. Compassion fatigue and toxic stress are real and present dangers in this profession, and we endeavor to combat them at our practice in many ways, including a negotiable salary, generous benefits and a family friendly atmosphere.   We have a state-of-the-art small and exotic animal veterinary hospital in the north east suburban area of San Antonio, Texas, just minutes from the hill country and Guadalupe River. Our spacious, remodeled 3,300 square foot "paperless" practice is well-equipped, and our fantastic location, mid-affluent clients, friendly work environment and great support staff, including 2 LVTs, 2 LVTs in progress, multiple assistants and a high staff-to-doctor ratio, enable our dedication to the highest levels of patient care and client relationships. We work hard to support our team and create an environment of growth, support, teamwork and positivity. We are looking for a similarly positive, collaborative, enthusiastic person to help us continue our high standards of care and service to the San Antonio community. We offer an attractive compensation package including paid time off, CE/dues, health insurance and SIMPLE IRA for full time staff.

COVID safety is our top priority.  During these turbulent times, our hospital has made the health and safety of our staff its top priority.  Thanks to the deep bond of trust established with our clients, we have been able to maintain an isolated office environment by offering curbside concierge and drop-off appointments. At this time, no clients are permitted access to the hospital. Only their furry, scaly and feathered kids are allowed to enter. All staff members are required to wear masks in order to increase safety.

Our practice caseload is diverse ranging from dogs, cats and rabbits to bearded dragons, chickens and macaws. We are a Cat Friendly practice with a low stress handling approach. Internal medicine, preventative medicine, soft tissue surgery and dentistry are our practice’s major focus. We complement this with a doctor who performs acupuncture and extensive Class IV Cold Laser Therapy.

Northern Oaks Bird & Animal Hospital is proud to be a privately owned 3 doctor practice with family flexibility, yet the benefits of a larger business. Our equipment is cutting edge, well-maintained and includes monitors, Hot Dog patient warming systems, digital radiology, dental radiology, Ligasure, ultrasound, two Class IV Cold Therapeutic Lasers, Abaxis in house labs and a digitized Avimark record-keeping system. We are supported by VMG and AAHA tools to help further our needs and have a deep commitment to continuing education.

The ideal candidate is very strong in client relationship and communication skills and has an excellent attitude. We are looking for a doctor who wants to be part of a team and wants to be supported by our exceptionally loyal and well trained long-term licensed staff. Experienced or new graduates welcome to apply as Dr. Byrd is someone who values the mentor role. We want all of our team members to seek the training that will make them the most confident and successful in their position.
