We offer a collaborative work environment with board certified specialists in Surgery, Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Cardiology, Anesthesiology, and Radiology. We also offer certified professionals in Physical Rehabilitation, Pain Management, Acupuncture, and Chiropractic care. VMC is a compassionate, exciting, and fast-paced facility that offers professional development and abundant opportunity.

We look for dedicated team players who are seeking a rewarding career and are ready to expand their knowledge into specialty veterinary medicine.  We never stop growing or seeking to improve, and we want team members who will grow with us!

You are successful in a technical role at VMC if you are:

  • Compassionate
  • A good communicator
  • Eager to learn
  • Ready to help pets who really need you.

Continuing Education is a priority – we ensure that your CE requirements are met and exceeded:

  • National conference rotation with expenses paid
  • Abundant In-House CE programs

Specialization:

We boast the largest group of VTS LVTs in the Syracuse region, with specialization primarily in the area of Emergency and Critical Care (ECC).  VTS LVTs receive an automatic pay increase upon successful completion of their specialization.  We encourage each technician to consider gaining these credentials and are supportive of the process. Formal mentored programs are available in some specialties, and financial support is available for the credentialing process.

Staff Wellness and Appreciation Program

  • Licensed clinical social worker available for individual wellness assessments, resilience building tools, and overall cultural wellness.
  • Investment in long-term career paths for techs - we value YOU
  • Monthly massages
  • Annual department appreciation gifts and staff-wide Appreciate Week events

The VMC is a 18,000 sq ft hospital (with plans for upcoming expansion) that currently offers 24 hour emergency in addition to Internal Medicine, Surgery, Oncology, Radiology, Cardiology, Nutrition, Behavior, Anesthesiology and Critical Care. In addition, within the VMC exists CARE, a complementary rehabilitation and pain management center. The Critical Care Service has its own technical team to ensure efficient case management. Attached to the VMC is an IDEXX reference laboratory, which enables accurate test results with a fast turnaround time for hospitalized patients.

Formal Training and Development Program

Veterinary Medical Center of CNY offers a formal Training and Development Program led by our LVT Director of Development, Gayle Fuerst, LVT, RN. Gayle came to VMC originally in 2005 as a Licensed Veterinary Technician, after having worked in a busy ER/Specialty practice in Colorado. Gayle became the first VTS (ECC) in the Syracuse area shortly after joining VMC, and her mentorship and example directly assisted or inspired many other VMC techs to gain VTS certification. She served as VMC's LVT Supervisor for a number of years before completing her education as a Registered Nurse and transitioning to human medicine.

We are thrilled that Gayle has rejoined our field to assist us in preparing and mentoring our Licensed Veterinary Technicians for successful and rewarding careers in emergency and specialty veterinary medicine.

I’m a licensed tech, but do I need experience?

Jumping into emergency and specialty medicine can be a real challenge, but we’re ready to help you succeed! Our formalized training and mentoring program allows us to confidently add new grads and technicians with no prior emergency/specialty experience to our team.

We will help you gain the skills you need!

We currently have openings in the following departments:

  • Emergency/Critical Care
  • Internal Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Anesthesiology (with mentored VTS track potential)

Syracuse is located in beautiful upstate NY and offers many activities for the outdoor enthusiast (hiking, running, kayaking, swimming, triathlons, snowmobiling, skiing, etc). We are located near the Finger Lakes that boasts beautiful wineries as well as craft beer makers, which complements Syracuse's blossoming culinary scene. We appreciate our staff, and your Wellness is our priority! From monthly massages to week-long appreciation events, we are invested to making our practice a place to join and stay.
