Wagnolia Veterinary Clinic is looking for a full-time veterinarian who has the medical knowledge and soft skills needed to provide positive outcomes and experiences for our patients and clients, treating each pet like it is our own. 

Our clinic's mission is to provide excellent veterinary care in a low-stress environment. We strive to be great communicators, to have compassion, and to stay ahead on new techniques and information. We care deeply about developing a strong, motivated, and happy team and have a passion for community service. We work closely with local rescues to provide high quality veterinary care for their pets and partner with other charitable organizations in the city to help where we can.

Responsibilities
- Perform physical examinations and treat patients, employing fear free tactics and provide a low stress experience for every patient.
- Educate on the importance of preventive care through use of annual wellness lab assessments, core and lifestyle-specific vaccinations and year-round parasite prevention.
- Perform surgery and anesthesia.
- Practice evidence-based medicine.
- Communication and documentation. You’ll perform client communication/lab callbacks/progress reports.
- Engender customer loyalty and provide excellent service to pet owners by explaining procedures and medications, celebrating good news and supporting them in times of stress and loss.
- Collaboration. You'll work closely with the medical director to create uniform and evidence-based protocols for consistent and sensible patient care. Your input matters and we want you to communicate and contribute to medical and customer service protocols.
- Mentor our amazing, dedicated, and motivated support team.

Required Experience
- Must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and be licensed to practice in Illinois.
- Surgical experience. You have experience performing dentistry (including ability to interpret intraoral radiographs and perform extractions) and basic soft tissue procedures (spay, neuter, mass removals, cystotomy).
- Anesthesia experience. You have experience in creating and performing anesthetic protocols including locoregional anesthesia to provide safe outcomes and adequate pain management and comfort for all patients.
- Solid computer skills. We use cloud-based practice management software.

- Empathy and Compassion. You take the feelings and needs of others into account, display patience even when others around you may be stressed, upset. This includes pets, owners, and colleagues.
- Resilience. You can stay the course, support co-workers, pets and pet owners in the face of pressure or hardship.
- Excellent communication, oral and written. You are a good listener and able to distill critical patient information into your treatment plan. You can thoroughly yet succinctly explain wellness, follow-up care and treatment options to pet owners.
- You are a good writer, clear and succinct with the utmost attention to detail when writing medical records.
- You are able to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting and standing for extended periods of time.

Bonus points for
- Fear Free certified or Low Stress Handling technique trained.
- Interest in community events and public education. We work with local groups and businesses to provide education and information to the public on topics including preventive care, medicine, behavioral health and One Health.
