We're looking to add another veterinarian to our privately-owned, mixed animal practice.  This position is for an equine/large animal practitioner based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ office.  Mount Laurel is located in south central NJ approximately 25 minutes east of Philadelphia and an hour west of the Jersey Shore.  Our equine/large animal doctors primarily see cases on an ambulatory basis within a 30 mile radius of this office.  We also have a equine/large animal haul-in farm facility located a few miles down the road in Eastampton, NJ.

The practice sees a wide variety of species including everything from small animals to horses, goats, sheep, pet pigs, poultry, and pocket pets but this position is equine/large animal specific.  95% of the position is ambulatory with a smaller number of haul-in cases seen at our office or farm facility.  Our large animal caseload consists of a mix of horses (~60%), small ruminants/camelids (~30%), and rarely other livestock species such as cattle or cervids (~10%).  We do have a large pet pig caseload as well, so an interest in this is a plus but not a requirement. 

Applicants for this position should be comfortable with seeing general practice equine wellness, sick, and emergency appointments.  With the majority of the remaining caseload being small ruminants; comfort or at least a willingness to learn to manage these cases is necessary.  We do little to no production type work here; almost all the non-equine large animal cases we treat are pets.

The practice offers a fast-paced but fun work environment with a wide variety of cases.  We're lucky to have a wonderful support staff and techs that travel with doctors in the field.  Our offices are paperless (AVImark) and well-equipped with digital x-ray (including digital dental x-ray), ultrasound, new high-speed dental units, Bovie electrocautery, Aesculight CO2 surgical laser, ForceTriad/Ligasure vessel sealing, endoscopy, in-house IDEXX labs (Procyte, Catalyst, Sedivue), in-house pharmacy, isoflurane/sevoflurane gas anesthesia and advanced anesthetic monitoring (ECG, BP, SpO2, Temp, CO2).  Ultrasound and portable x-ray are available for use in the field.  Associates can access the office computer system from the field via cellular and have the same access as if they were in the office.

An ambulatory vehicle will access to all the tools you need to do your job will be provided.  Emergency coverage is currently primarily provided by two equine/large animal doctors.  The associate will be expected to share emergency on-call responsibilities.  Doctors with on-call responsibilities also have cell phone service covered by the practice.

Staff currently includes four full-time veterinarians (one small animal exclusive doctor, two mixed animal doctors, and one equine/large animal doctor).  Consulting specialists in cardiology, surgery, and internal medicine rotate through our offices on a schedule and allow us to provide a wide range of care to our clients on site.

Applicants must currently hold or be eligible to obtain a New Jersey veterinary license, New Jersey CDS permit, New Jersey Drivers License, and Level II USDA accreditation.  Additional licensure and USDA accreditation in PA is preferred.

While exceptional new graduates will be considered, candidates should be prepared to begin independently seeing ambulatory cases in the field.  Support from other veterinarians in the practice is available but this position is best for a confident, self-starter who can work without direct supervision and is able to hit the ground running.
