Generous annual CE allowance, AVMA and PLIT dues paid for, Licensure reimbursed (DVM ad DEA). Pre tax Health Care reimbursement.

We are seeking a veterinarian who is organized, honest, dedicated, and works well with others.  Our ideal candidate is friendly, respectful, helpful, hardworking, and patient. Most of all, they love animals and want to improve the lives of animals. Candidates must understand that they will be working in both shelter medicine and with the public in general practice medicine. The Walk-In clinic is busy and fast paced. Veterinarians must feel comfortable and enjoy discussing cases with owners or directing vet staff to do so.

 The Veterinary Care Center's hours are as follows:  Public Spay/Neuter surgery is in the morning Tuesday -Friday. The Public Walk In Wellness clinic is open Tuesday-Friday 1-4 pm and Saturday 8am -12 pm.

 Work Schedule : 4.5   days per week. Tuesday-Saturday

Location: Aiken, SC—the Best Small Town in the South according to Southern Living Magazine. 

 Aiken is known for its cultural opportunities, such as the Performing Arts center, symphony and outdoor concerts in Hopelands Gardens.  We have one of the most active equestrian towns including our own Triple Crown Races.  Other sporting activities include golf, tennis, marathons, hunting and  camping.  

 

  • Physically examine shelter animals within 24 hrs of intake.
  • Perform a minimum of 10-15 spay/neuter surgeries per morning when assigned to the Spay/Neuter team and consult with private patients in afternoon.
  • Supervise inoculation of shelter animals and provide recommendations for follow-up or continued care.
  • Communicate with Shelter Manager regarding inoculation and medical care of shelter animals.
  • Recognize and initiate treatment for medical conditions of shelter animals.
  • Provide wellness and medical care to publicly owned animals.
  • Provide appropriate chart maintenance for all cases. Avimark software is used.
  • Supervise handling and recording of controlled substances by veterinary technicians.
  • Actively promote spay/neuter and adoption and educate clients on responsible pet ownership.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Be reachable by the medical or shelter staff by telephone on a rotating schedule.
  • Provide emergency advice and possibly care for shelter animals after hours.
  • Mentoring and supervision of Senior Veterinary Externship students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The SPCA Albrecht Center is a non-profit, no-kill, limited admissions animal shelter, fully equipped public veterinary clinic, all in a modern and attractive facility that includes a high volume spay and neuter surgical suite. We are equipped with new digital xray, ultrasound, dental xray, bloodwork, and full in-house lab. We are a Humane Alliance Model S/N Clinic, as well as a shelter and Education and Training Center. We adopt approximately 1,100 animals/year.
