The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS), Texas A&M University, is excited to invite applicants to a full-time, tenure-track/tenure review upon hire faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor rank on an 9-month appointment, with an anticipated start date in Spring or Fall 2023. Candidates must be accomplished scientists with a clinical veterinary background capable of leading a high-impact clinical and/or laboratory research program. The position is open to applicants in any small animal clinical sciences discipline. Applicants may be eligible to receive an endowed position or have access to endowed research funds directed to their area of interest.

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences includes approximately 60 faculty members, 55 interns and residents, and 15 graduate students representing > 10 collaborative specialty services with diverse clinical, teaching, and research responsibilities. The department houses the Gastrointestinal Laboratory, a $10 million service and research hub with nine associated faculty members; the Dog Aging Project, a federally funded collaboration including over 50 scientists worldwide; and strong research programs in cardiology, neurology/neurosurgery, and orthopedic surgery. Additionally, the Department has an Office of Clinical Investigation, which supports clinical trials, research, and biobanking activities. The School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences is one of the top-ranked research-oriented veterinary programs in the US and offers graduate degrees in Biomedical Genomics & Bioinformatics; Diagnostics & Therapeutics; Infection, Immunity & Epidemiology; Physiology & Developmental Biology; Epidemiology & Public Health, Science Technology & Journalism, and Toxicology. The Department and School have strong relationships with investigators in the Texas A&M University College of Engineering and Health Science Center, Texas Medical Center, the Texas Heart Institute, and the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. Additionally, our department and School are part of an active NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Science Award with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, which supports collaborative, clinical-applied, and translational research.

A new Small Animal Teaching Hospital has been funded and is actively being designed to accommodate the department and related research activities. In our current facility, we see approximately 23,000 patients per year and have access to sophisticated diagnostic and patient care equipment, including but not limited to 40 slice CT, 3T MRI, video endoscopy, nuclear imaging, acid-base/blood-gas analyzers, oxygen and inhalant gas analyzers, standard coagulation as well as viscoelastic testing of hemostasis, intraoperative cell salvage transfusion equipment, phacoemulsification system, high-flow oxygen therapy, color-flow Doppler ultrasonography, 4D transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, digital fluoroscopy, scintigraphy, and an ICU telemetry system. Radiation capabilities include TomoTherapy and Strontium-90 plesiotherapy. Surgical suites and instrumentation allow for complex orthopedic, neurologic, cardiac, thoracic, oncologic, and abdominal procedures such as stereotactic brain biopsies, cardiac occlusive device implantation, and subcutaneous ureteral bypass device placement. A dedicated interventional radiology/interventional endoscopy service was recently formed. The hospital maintains Mimics and Echopixel licenses for three-dimensional reconstruction, with easy access to 3D printers. The VMTH has capable personnel, including talented ICU technicians, an active multidisciplinary interventional radiology service, two in-house pharmacists with compounding capability, and a clinical trials coordinator.

We encourage applications from candidates who promote equity and diversity through teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, educational background, or service. The Texas A&M University VMTH values employee quality of life and well-being and the sustainability of our missions.
