The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time (12 month) Tenure-track or Clinical-track position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in Large Animal Medicine. PVM is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development. A formal faculty mentoring program is in place.

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree, and completion of a residency program registered by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or board certification by the ACVIM. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills, and be able to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, house officers and clientele. The clinical responsibility will be caring for all large animal species with a predominant focus on equine medicine. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A background check is required for employment by the University.

The successful candidate will actively participate in the discovery, learning and engagement missions of the PVM and VCS department. Important activities include: Discovery: All faculty are expected to collaborate on clinical research projects. Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop an independent research program. Research that complements the interests and strengths of current faculty interests is ideal but can also be tailored to the candidate’s specific background and interests. The PVM is situated on the Purdue campus, allowing for a wide array of research opportunities. Clinical Service: Providing clinical service to patients of the Purdue Veterinary Hospital (typical time commitment: 30-50% Tenure-track and 60-70% Clinical-track); supervising veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, and house officers; and building strong relationships with referring veterinarians. After hours emergency call is shared with other faculty. Learning: Clinical, didactic and laboratory instruction of veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, house officers, and graduate students. Engagement: Participation in committee work, professional organizations, delivery of continuing education, and other applicable activities.

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital recently completed a major expansion project. The new David and Bonnie Brunner Purdue Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex includes:

  • The David and Bonnie Brunner Equine Hospital, a new state-of-the-art facility covering over 73,000 square feet, including an outpatient center, intensive care unit, advanced imaging (standing CT, MRI, nuclear medicine and radiology), surgical and theriogenology facilities; and
  • The David and Bonnie Brunner Farm Animal Hospital, a 24,000 square foot building offering comprehensive farm animal medical and surgical care.

The new complex provides state of the art teaching facilities dedicated to educating the next generation of veterinary professionals, enabling faculty to provide top quality compassionate animal health care, and serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary clinical research.

Commitment to the College and Departmental missions of discovery, clinical service, learning, and engagement, and support of the College and Department strategic plans are essential. The successful candidate is expected to promote an atmosphere of collegiality and support cultural diversity in the College.

Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine/Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including discovery, learning, and engagement. Candidates should address at least one of these areas in a separate diversity and inclusion statement, indicating their past experiences, current interests, or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion.

Review of applications will begin on December 14, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should provide the following: a cover letter including professional goals and teaching philosophy, a separate diversity and inclusion statement, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three professional references via the provided link: https://careers.purdue.edu/job-invite/21433/
