Equine Veterinary Vision, Inc. is seeking applicants for a one-year Equine Ophthalmology Fellowship.  This is a mostly ambulatory practice serving the Virginia and Maryland equine communities in the Washington, D.C. region. We work out of many equine clinics in the region, where patients have surgery and are hospitalized. 

Fellowship training will include performing complete ophthalmic examinations including slit lamp biomicroscopy and direct/indirect ophthalmoscopy.  Development of diagnostic, treatment and surgical skills such as tonometry, imaging, corneal cytology, SPL placement, enucleation, eyelid laceration repair and third eyelid resection will be expected.  Advanced surgical skills will not be the focus of the program but experience working under magnification for corneal, eyelid and intraocular surgeries is encouraged.  The applicant will be expected to participate in emergency and scheduled ophthalmology appointments under direct supervision.

The programs didactic teaching will be tailored to the goals of the fellow, but biweekly rounds will be expected, and clinical research opportunities are available and encouraged. This fellowship will provide the candidate with valuable skills for equine private practice or help a candidate prepare for a residency position.

Requirements include a DVM degree or equivalent and demonstrate a strong interest in equine ophthalmology.  This position is open to veterinarians that have completed a rotating internship or have 3 years of clinical practice experience. Applicants with small animal experience will be considered but a good equine background and handling skills are necessary for a successful fellowship. Applicant must be eligible for licensure in Virginia and Maryland. Valid driver’s license and working vehicle are required.
