The NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine (“CVM”) invites qualified candidates to apply for a twelve-month, .5 FTE Anatomy Lecturer position with the Department of Molecular Biomedical Science.

 

The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) has achieved national recognition in research, teaching and clinical excellence, and the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences plays critical roles in all these areas. The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences is one of three departments at the CVM and consists of faculty who have diverse research, clinical, and teaching interests.

The position of Lecturer of Veterinary Anatomy will be dedicated 100% to instructional activities of the anatomy curriculum. Veterinary anatomy is taught during the fall and spring semesters of the first year DVM program. The successful candidate in this position will be required to participate fully in the instruction of both fall (carnivore) and spring (large animal) anatomy courses and assume responsibilities of laboratory instruction and associated assessments of student learning. Development of innovative teaching methods and resources for anatomy instruction (for example: prosections, dry models, and digital media resources, etc.) will be expected of this position.

The successful candidate will:

  • Answer student questions and help guide dissection in carnivore (fall) and comparative (spring) veterinary anatomy laboratory settings.
  • Dissect a dog or cat cadaver and a large animal cadaver for use by students and instructors in teaching and reviewing relevant anatomic structures.
  • Assist in development of innovative teaching methods and resources for anatomy instruction (for example: prosections, dry models, and digital media resources, etc.).
  • Attend didactic lectures presented by anatomy team members so as to incorporate lecture and laboratory content when teaching students in the laboratory.
  • Meet with students outside of scheduled laboratory times to review material, as requested.
  • Assist in setting, proctoring, and grading course assessments.
  • Work with the anatomy teaching technician and laboratory manager to prepare the laboratory for student use, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer teaching experience in a university setting.
  • Strong commitment to excellence in teaching is expected.
  • Prefer good computer skills, i.e., MS Word, MS Excel
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.

Master’s Degree with a preference for a DVM or PhD

 

  • Veterinary clinical practice background and/or teaching experience in gross anatomy or a closely related applied discipline (for example, surgery, radiology, pathology, etc.).
  • Possession of excellent interpersonal skills as well as oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
  • Commitment to practicing inclusivity, promoting equity, and making the community a priority.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
