The Department of Pathobiological Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin-Madison, is seeking candidates for a clinical-track or teaching-track anatomic pathology faculty position. Across both positions, there is a 60% expected effort for clinical diagnostic biopsy and necropsy service/clinical teaching, with variable percentage distributions for teaching pre-clinical veterinary students (e.g., 2nd-year pathology courses), collaborative research, and academic service responsibilities. The position is open for applicants at all levels (assistant, associate, and full professor). The minimum requirements for the selected candidate include a DVM or equivalent, ACVP or ECVP board eligibility, and licensure or eligibility for licensure in Wisconsin. Two years of post-residency experience in diagnostic anatomic pathology, research experience and/or a PhD, as well as a demonstrated strong interest and experience in training pathology residents, are preferred but not required. ACVP or ECVP Board Certification must be obtained within the first 15-months of hire.

The University of Wisconsin’s culture of collaboration and collegiality provide many opportunities to interact and engage professionally and socially. Colleagues in the Department of Pathobiological Sciences have expertise in infectious disease, immunology, and comparative pathology and includes Directors of the Comparative Ocular Pathology Laboratory of Wisconsin, the Midwest Center for Excellence in Vector-borne Disease, the Influenza Research Institute, and the Global Health Institute. Our anatomic pathology section has a long-standing collaboration with the Milwaukee County Zoo, and the city of Madison and surrounding area are home to a large and very active community of veterinary and human pathologists from both UW (e.g., Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Wisconsin National Primate Research Center, Research Animal Resources and Compliance Center, and School of Medicine and Public Health) and non-UW entities (e.g. National Wildlife Health Center, Labcorp Drug Development, and Antech). Additional expertise within the School of Veterinary Medicine’s other three departments include veterinary oncology, comparative orthopedic and genetics, respiratory and reproductive biology, and neuroscience. The UW campus has an international reputation built on collaborations across the diverse schools and professional programs such as Medicine and Public Health, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Engineering, Dairy Science, and Computer, Data, and Information Sciences to name a few. Support and training for translational research are advanced by the NIH-funded Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, and excellence in teaching is cultivated through the Teaching Academy. Frequently rated one of the best places to work and live, Madison offers an exceptional lifestyle providing an outstanding environment for an academic career.

Please apply for one of the faculty tracks via the UW-Madison’s job site. Please note that there is only one position available with flexible track.

  • Clinical track – Assistant, associate, and full professors (PVL274139)
  • Teaching track – Assistant, associate, and full professors (PVL274140)

You will be asked to provide: 1) a cover letter with a brief description of your experience in the field of anatomic pathology and commitment to teaching excellence (residents, veterinary students, etc.); 2) a detailed curriculum vitae; and 3) names and contact information for three professional references. In addition, please request that each of your three references send a letter of recommendation directly to the Search Committee. Please see the job posting on the UW-Madison’s job site for the email address these can be sent to.

For full consideration, the application should be received by April 15, 2023.  For specific questions regarding this position, contact: Dr. Leandro Teixeira, Search Committee Co-Chair.

The University of Wisconsin is an AA/EOE. All qualified applicants, especially women and underrepresented minority candidates, are encouraged to apply.
