We are offering the opportunity to become part of an established and well-respected local veterinary practice. Pieper Veterinary is in the unique position of being able to offer the resources of a large practice with the values and culture of a small, family-owned business. We are seeking a qualified candidate to lead and manage the Surgery, Imaging & Sterile Services teams at our Middletown hospital.  

Under the direct supervision of the Specialty Manager, the Floor Manager is chiefly responsible for the day-to-day guidance and supervision of the Surgery, Imaging & Sterile Services teams.  The position of  Floor Manager may also encompass all the duties as a technician/assistant, within the departments, and/or position with the added responsibilities of supervision and training of department members during assigned/scheduled shift.  Additionally, you are required to adhere to all hospital directives and protocols and maintain the highest ethical, moral, and professional standards and model a pleasant, respectful, and productive doctor-staff and staff-staff relationship.

Leadership Requirements: As a member of the leadership team the Hospital Manager must consistently:

  • Demonstrate reliability and commitment to the team and the hospital
  • Treat direct reports and all staff members with respect and in a supportive manner
  • Be an active problem solver, determine system improvements and help implement change
  • Remain flexible to hospital needs
  • Cooperate and pitch in to help wherever needed
  • Communicate effectively to clients and team members
  • Have compassion for animals and their owners and understands the stress that patients and clients endure.

Team supervision and development

  • Assists in the supervision of  staff, during their shifts.
  • Delegate and manage employee task assignments.
  • Resolve informal employee complaints and effectively present/escalate employee issues to management for counseling and disciplinary actions.
  • Responsible for managing the disciplinary process in conjunction with Hospital Manager & HR support & direction where necessary
  • Responsible for communicating job expectations, evaluating performance and team contributions, planning, and reviewing compensation actions, enforcing policy and procedure, and providing feedback, documentation and progressive discipline as needed.
  • Responsible for conducting interviews/working interviews as appropriate.
  • Assist and oversee all on-boarding and training of new neurology employees. Ensure phase training is being worked on and completed over the 90-day introductory period.
  • Responsible for completing 30/60/90-day reviews and reporting feedback/documentation.
  • Conducting bi-weekly meetings between doctors, department leads, and support staff as needed.
  • Conducting monthly, all-staff meetings for teams.
  • In charge of making sure support staff schedules are completed at least one month in advance.
  • In charge of completing any necessary on-call schedules at least once month in advance.
  • In charge of creating monthly on-call list for payroll adjustments.
  • In charge of bi-weekly payroll for the staff.
  • Coach, develop and maintain a process for skill development of direct reports by providing teams with effective goal setting, delegation, and communication.
  • Build and maintain respectful, positive working relationships with staff, supervisors, and the public by communicating effectively, listening actively, practicing empathy and patience, and motivating the teams to collaborate.
  • Attend leadership training as required for continued professional development.
  • Must be able to work rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
  • Recommend /present process improvement ideas to management.
  • May be required to make client calls when related to the departments covered.
  • Will be required to join the Leader on Duty rotating weekend schedule. As part of LOD program, you will be required to cover a holiday from time to time along with the rest of the group.
  • Oversee policies regarding employee pets, uniforms, and personal appearance.

 

Floor operations/workflow:

  • Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of all shared work areas.
  • Monitor staffing levels for each shift; that support staff are arriving and leaving on time, managing lunch breaks, and controlling overtime.
  • Fill shift vacancies when a support staff member calls out (May be needed to jump in and help, when staff shortages threaten consistent workflow).
  • Coordinate with Central Inventory, doctors, leads, and the Specialty Manager to oversee ordering of instruments, surgical equipment, and other items needed for department workflow.
  • Maintain all equipment in good working order and submission of tickets for repairs/replacement.
  • Develop and maintain a list of slow time tasks for staff to engage them in productive work during slow periods.
  • Direct all staff continuously throughout the day, to maintain maximum efficiency/flow of the services.
  • Assigning daily lunches while maintaining a seamless workflow throughout the day.
  • Oversee that all daily tasks or requests are completed before staff leaves for the day. i.e. charges are complete and biopsies/lab work have been sent to the appropriate laboratories, instruments are clean and ready for the next day, appointments have been confirmed for next day.  
  • Assure that all of your department’s treatments are being completed on time throughout the day.
  • Ensure the teams are timely and accurately, invoicing items to capture all surgical/treatment/procedure/consult charges.
  • Assist in preparing discharges and dispensing medications so that patients going home can be discharged on time.
  • Perform patient discharges as requested by doctors.
  • Ensure that interns/doctors have created treatment sheets for all in-hospital patients for the following day.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
