We are eager to continue our growth as a high quality small animal general practice.  Hicks Animal Clinic has been a part of the Rocky Mount community for over 38 years. However, the Hicks family started the first veterinary clinic in Rocky Mount in 1920, a tradition that has continued for 4 generations with our current owner, Michael Hicks DVM. 

Since rejoining his father, Dr. Stuart Hicks, in 2016, Hicks Animal Clinic has tripled in volume and is currently a 2.5 doctor practice.  We are eager to find the right veterinarian to continue to provide the services that our clientele and patients are accustomed to receiving.  Having been voted the Best Veterinarian in Rocky Mount by People’s Choice for 12 years in a row, we pride ourselves in the quality of our service and thorough communication that we provide our clients. We strive to maintain a compassionate, hard working staff that enjoys contributing to our role in the community and is eager to expand their knowledge within our vast industry.  We experience low employee turnover which is representative of our work environment and culture.

 At Hicks Animal Clinic, we utilize standard in-house diagnostics to help manage cases, including CBC and chemistry blood work machine, ultrasound, digital radiology, cytology, tonometry, blood pressure, EKG, and more. We offer a range of soft tissue surgeries as well as select orthopedic surgeries.  We are associated with a mobile orthopedic specialist that handles most of those cases in-house as needed. We are fortunate to have two 24/7 emergency clinics within 30 minutes of our clinic, both of which offer board certified surgeons and criticalists. We are located roughly 45-60 minutes from Raleigh which is home to NC State Veterinary School and a number of other specialty clinics. We maintain a good relationship with these clinics and utilize their services often. Our associates are therefore not responsible for on-call emergencies. 

We are interested in bringing on an associate that is compassionate and eager to grow into the local community. Our new associate would be expected to be knowledgeable and self-sufficient with both basic soft tissue surgery and medical cases. Our doctors practice as a cooperative group involving case dialogue for determining the best therapy for the patient and are always interested in assisting when needed.  We believe the veterinary industry is founded on teamwork, where every member is vital and necessary to fulfill the needs of patients and clients.  Therefore, we are very team oriented, value ambition, and have a quality work ethic that is void of egotism.

Our area and state has much to offer! Rocky Mount is located in eastern North Carolina along the coastal plain region of the state. The Rocky Mount community is continually growing. Some of the highlights of our community include, the historic Rocky Mount Mills featuring multiple restaurants, 8+ breweries, a coffee shop, and routinely offers live music and events.  It is located along the Tar River and is connected to the 3-mile greenway which runs along the river and features multiple parks with basketball courts, baseball fields, volleyball courts, picnic areas, disc golf, and playgrounds. Beside the greenway you will also find one of North Carolina's largest dog parks. Just outside of town is a moderately sized reservoir for fishing and boating activities. We have multiple quality local restaurants as well.. 

If you're looking to explore outside of Rocky Mount you will find an amtrak station downtown and notice we are located along both I-95 which runs North-South from Florida to Maine as well as HWY 64 which runs East to West. We are within 1 hour of Raleigh, Durham, and Cary, where big city things are easily found, including an international airport, shopping, museums, live events, and shows. We are within a 2-3 hour drive of every beach in North Carolina, nicknamed the crystal coast for our beautiful beaches. One of our most famous coastal areas would be the Outer Banks. OBX is a unique oceanic ecosystem home to a range of water activities such as surfing, kiteboarding, scuba diving, and deep sea fishing. Not to mention great shopping and restaurants that offer year round seasonal food! The western part of North Carolina is home to one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world and parts of the Appalachian trail. Pisgah National Forest is roughly a 4 1/2 hour drive and offers a variety of hiking, backpacking, and waterfalls. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park, roughly a 5 hours drive, is a rainforest with limitless trails, waterfalls, flora, fauna, camping and hiking. As outlined above, Rocky Mount is conveniently located for all types of travel, activities and hobbies. There are options for both suburbia living as well as rural living within a reasonable driving distance with minimal traffic and boasts an affordable cost of living

We offer a very competitive contract for associate veterinarians.  Production may range from 20-22% with commission bonuses.  Additional benefits include signing bonus, moving stipend, healthcare stipend, retention bonus, personal pet discounts, competitive paid time off, along with license and continued education coverage.
