RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical / Surgical Skills

• Possesses the required medical and surgical knowledge to properly educate clients about recommended procedures.
• Ability to provide a technically thorough physical examination for all patients, in accordance with the patient’s medical condition and the reason for the appointment.
• Ability to update treatment records, anesthesia/surgery logs, controlled substance log, and all other medical related records promptly, accurately, and professionally.
• Ability to ensure that clients receive accurate cost estimates for treatment; obtains written permission before beginning treatment or surgery.
• Willingness to adhere and comply with medical standards of care set by the Chief of Medicine.

Client Skills

• Ability to relate well to clients; remember client and patient names; and thoroughly explain diagnosis and treatment alternatives in understandable terms.
• Consideration of both the client’s emotional well-being and the patient’s welfare in the treatment decision-making process.
• Calls clients personally after significant treatment or procedures, or ensures that a staff member calls and properly notes the client file.
• Ability to instill confidence in clients; strives to be well liked by clients.

Staff Skills

• Prioritizes taking time to share medical knowledge and expertise with staff.
• Ability to be approachable to staff but has ability to maintain a professional doctor/staff relationship and can work well as part of a team. 

Continuing Education

• Desires and actively strives to stay current on relevant veterinary topics.
• Willingness to change medical practices with updated research/technology. 

Productivity

• Judicious in the use of supplies.
• Ability to charge appropriately for time spent with clients and patients.
• Ability to work efficiently and with appropriate utilization of support staff.

• Undergraduate degree
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university
• Licensure in good standing to practice in the state of Hawaii, or ability to get licensed
