Save pets, help families, change lives. If you are a licensed Veterinary Doctor, you owe it to yourself to check out this opportunity where you will never have to turn a patient and their family away due to their financial situation. Enjoy competitive pay, great benefits, a desirable weekday schedule, and an abundance of different hands-on experiences to learn and grow your skillset. Plus, you can become eligible for federal student loan forgiveness!

The Susan M. Markel Veterinary hospital provides quality care at a reduced cost to pets in the Greater Richmond region. It is our mission to ensure that families have access to affordable treatment options for their companion animals, regardless of financial hardships.

The Richmond SPCA, an invaluable non-profit organization working to prevent animal homelessness, is seeking Veterinary Doctors to join their skilled, caring team as Associate Veterinarians at the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital.

If you have a degree in veterinary medicine, a current state of Virginia license to practice veterinary medicine, and a current DEA license, they want to hear from you!

Are you a newly licensed DVM? We hope that you will apply! Our DVMs work alongside highly trained and skilled staff members, including experienced DVMs who are eager to provide mentorship opportunities to new veterinarians.

Why you should join the Richmond SPCA team:

  • Competitive pay: Annual pay starts at $82,000, or more based upon experience!
  • Enjoy working for a leading no-kill humane society that doesn't turn patients away because their guardians can’t afford medical care. You will be able to provide the lifesaving care an animal needs and change lives, regardless of a family’s income.
  • Phenomenal benefits: health insurance with 95% of the employee-only premium paid for by the employer, you will only be responsible for paying 5%! Personal and health-related leave, 11 paid holidays, life insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, EAP, short-term disability, 401k plan with deferral opportunities after 90 days and guaranteed employer contributions after the first year, family and medical leave, and worker’s compensation.
  • Student loan forgiveness: as an employee of a non-profit, you can be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) after 10 years of employment.
  • Continuing education and licensure renewals are covered by the Richmond SPCA!
  • You will have access to the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital to receive care for your own pets!
  • Weekday, daytime schedule! You will work four 10-hour shifts a week. Enjoy three days off every week!

A day in the life:

  • Performance of spay/neuter surgeries, dentals, and other routine surgeries
  • Delivery of wellness care and annual physical examinations
  • Performance and interpretation of routine diagnostic tests, including radiography
  • Delivery of care for sick or injured hospital patients as needed
  • Development of ongoing treatment plans for acutely and chronically ill patients
  • Clear communication and the ability to educate a varied client base
  • Examination and treatment of shelter animals as needed
  • Other job-related duties as assigned
  • Attend and participate in all required trainings and meetings

The Richmond SPCA is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to the individual's race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age, disability, genetic information, status as a military veteran, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
