GCVS

NVA Compassion-First is now Ethos Veterinary Health

Founded in 1989, Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS) , has been serving Texas pets, their owners and referral veterinarians for more than 30 years. Our core values of Compassion, Ethics, Knowledge, Collaboration, and Quality guide all of our decision making, and provide a framework that enables us to provide best in class medicine.

We are seeking an ICU Managing/Hospitalist Veterinarian to work with the emergency and specialty teams, assisting in the intake and management of hospitalized emergency patients, creating and recommending treatment plans, maintaining and updating medical records and facilitating transfers to the appropriate specialty service as needed. Hospitalists at GCVS enjoy both our dedicated, experienced support staff of 40+, as well as scribes to help with note taking, updating patient records etc. to allow our doctors spend more time practicing, less time on administration.

Schedule consists of 12 to 14 twelve-hour shifts per month. As we build out this new service, we are flexible to consider the preference of 3 12-hour shifts per week or a Nocturnist-style schedule of 7 days on followed by 14 days off.

Hospitalist responsibilities :

  • Receive transfers from the emergency veterinarians that require hospitalization. Patients may be transferred to specialists the same day, the following day, or may be discharged by hospitalist on the following day.
  • Receive minor follow up appointments that come through as “same day emergencies” as well as low acuity same-day These will be the “fast track” emergencies.
  • Create and recommend treatment plans
  • Update patient information in medical records with the latest findings and treatments
  • Order diagnostic tests for health care staff to administer
  • Review and interpret test results
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals based on diagnostic results and physical exam findings
  • Communicate with patient owners regarding their care and well-being
  • Provide updates and discharge summaries to rDVMs
  • Attend daily rounds
