If you are a veterinarian, what do you really want to know about a practice if you are considering a job there?
First, you want to know salary, benefits, perks, etc.
At Savannah’s Crossing, we offer ProSal or straight salary, whatever makes you most comfortable. Experience is a big factor, but we offer a very competitive salary in today’s job market. We offer a retirement plan with a match, health insurance stipend, AVMA dues, DEA and Tennessee state license, $1000 CE allowance, and professional liability insurance.
What about time off?
We offer 12 days PTO per year. In addition, Savannah’s Crossing is closed on major holidays so we can be with our families. We close a ½ day on New Year’s Eve and all day on New Year’s Day. We close on Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. We close Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, and Saturday of Thanksgiving holiday. And for Christmas, we close ½ day on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the day after Christmas.
In addition, the doctors take an extra day or 2 off around Christmas to have extra time with family. This varies from year to year based on when the holiday falls in the week.
Ok, salary/benefits/time off sound good. What about the practice? What type of medicine do you practice? How well is the practice staffed, and how busy is it?
We are busy! I wouldn’t be advertising for another vet if we weren’t busy. That being said, it is a priority that the doctors get lunch every day and leave on time in the evening. That’s the only way to prevent burnout. We do not take walk-ins. We don’t do emergency work. These are only allowed if the visit has been approved with the doctor that will be seeing the case.
We practice a high quality of medicine. Savannah’s Crossing is blessed to have a great clientele that are almost always willing to do the blood work, take the radiographs, go for the ultrasound, etc. And because we are privately owned, you can practice how YOU want to practice. There is no quota or production to achieve.
The only way to be busy and practice a high quality of medicine is to have a great team. We average 2-3 technicians/assistants per doctor, as well as a full client services team up front. We value our team, and we look for people with great attitudes. No toxic co-workers!
Savannah’s Crossing is a very honest practice. We do not “push” things that don’t need done. And because of this, our clients have faith and trust in us. I believe if you are honest, provide a quality and valuable service, the income takes care of itself.
So what are WE looking for?
We are looking for a veterinarian with experience that thrives on making decisions. Good communication with clients and the veterinary team are a must. A good vet must be able to delegate, let assistants do the assistant things and doctors do the doctor things. And we are looking for someone with a good attitude! Veterinary medicine is hard, it’s stressful, it’s frustrating, but it can be deeply rewarding.
