This position is responsible for managing a team of veterinarians, vet techs and analysts that support the Pet Parent and Associate regarding the education and care of the fish, birds, reptiles, and small animals in our stores to ensure the animal’s health, wellbeing, and success with the Pet Parent. This includes maintaining and improving the quality assurance program for live pets to ensure our high standards are met of healthy pets coming into the store and proper care is given once they’re in our care. This would involve working with live vendor partners in communicating standards, holding them accountable through facility audits, corrective actions, analyzing data and making recommendations. In addition they will support the monitoring/adhering to regulations/regulatory compliance and partnering with legal. The appropriate individual will have statistical knowledge and be able to collect, analyze and make data driven decisions in a timely manner. They will possess skills to work collaboratively and effectively consult with internal cross functional partners (eg. marketing, product development, planning/replenishment, Store Operations, Legal and PR/Communications) and external agencies when necessary.
This role is located in Phoenix, Arizona at the corporate offices of PetSmart, LLC.
Responsibilities
Support Merchandising team on Pet Parent and associate education initiatives
Support eComm team on customer experience and product selection initiatives
Work with Marketing, Public Relations and Corporate Communications regarding interaction with Pet Parents
Support store operations and learning team on associate education initiatives
Perform vendor audits of live animal suppliers
Create metrics and track improvement progress Qualifications
Travel expected for vendor audits - approximately 25%
Experience
DVM or VMD degree. An Arizona State Veterinary Medical License (if not already licensed) must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
A minimum of 10 years of veterinary experience preferably with exotics.
Preference of Board Certification or Advanced degree in related discipline (such as zoo med, exotics, public health or epidemiology)
Must have (or obtain) a certificate of Veterinary Accreditation Category II by the USDA to write health certificates.
Proven customer-focused, quantitative, analytical, and project management skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work effectively with diverse customers and team members
Ability to resolve issues in a timely and effective manner; problem solving and corrective action skills a must
Ability to present technical information to various levels of the organization
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
Must have great communication skills and be able to work in a team environment."
